Behind the Scenes: Creating a Site Shop Template

September 8, 2020

We’re just two weeks away from the launch of the new Site Shop, featuring website templates designed for fitness professionals. These website designs were crafted with the same attention to detail that goes into every one of my custom sites.

I considered every element I would when working with a client, so I thought I’d share a bit of a behind the scenes of what went into it.

Site Map & Creative Direction

Just like I would start a custom client project, I began with planning a strategic website flow through a site map. I considered the content a fitness professional would need in a website and the way a potential client of theirs would move from one page to another. I also put together creative direction for each site to guide the template colors, fonts, and photography. Of course each of these can be changed and customized for your own brand.

Content Planning

I took these website templates a step beyond the designs, with content and copywriting guides. To ensure a process that’s as simple and strategic as possible, I wrote prompts for each section to help you write quality copy. But like every other aspect of these templates, you can make this completely yours and add whatever copy you want.

Sketches

Once the content and strategy is in place I move on to designing, beginning with sketches. These rough sketches are an important first step to the design, as it strips the design down to the basics. I can visualize a unique creative layout without any actual photos, fonts, or colors.

Digital Layout

With Showit’s fully customizable drag and drop platform I layout the website design from scratch. Once the desktop version of the website is laid out, I create the mobile layouts to allow for a great mobile experience.

Photoshoot

I worked with two of my favorite photographers, Alisha Tova and Andrew Glatt, to get some demo photography for the templates. Photography can add so much quality and character to a site so I wanted to fully show their potential. This is also a huge element that can add your unique personality and brand feel to your website.

Refine. Refine. Refine.

It feels like I spend just as much time refining and testing every site as I do actually creating it. I check every page, photo, text box, blog setting at various browser widths and devices. I make sure everything is as perfect as it can be so that when you download it, the process of launching your site will be as easy and seamless as possible.

Check out the finished products (coming 9.22.20) at the Site Shop.
